Strong Starts Highlight WISL Week 1 as Top Teams Roll to Wins

South Sound FC 10, Bellingham United 5

In their first regular season match inside the new Jarzynka Memorial Fieldhouse in Gig Harbor, South Sound FC (SSFC) bested Bellingham United 10-5.

Leading the charge was SSFC’s Craig Johnson, earning First Star of the Game honors with a dominant four-point performance (2 goals, 2 assists). Second Star went to teammate, Nate Boatright, who tallied 1 goal and 2 assists for a three-point night. Boatright’s composure in possession and creative passing continually opened up chances for his teammates.

Despite the loss, Bellingham United’s Christian Caro earned the Third Star, netting two goals to keep the visitors within reach through much of the contest.

South Sound FC’s 10–5 victory marks a strong start to their season, while Bellingham United will look to rebound next week as the WISL schedule continues.

Tacoma Stars Reserves 10, Oly-Pen Force 0

The Tacoma Stars Reserves continued their unbeaten start to the WISL season with a commanding 10–0 victory over the Oly-Pen Force on Saturday night at the Tacoma Soccer Center. The home side controlled the pace from start to finish, combining sharp finishing with disciplined defense in a complete team performance.

Leading the charge was Tacoma’s Josh Szidik, earning First Star of the Game honors after recording 3 goals and 1 assist for a four-point night. Stars’ player Diego Hernandez claimed the Second Star, contributing 2 goals and 1 assist as part of Tacoma’s balanced attack.


Tacoma goalkeeper Tony Peña earned the Third Star after posting a shutout, an impressive feat in indoor soccer. The win keeps the Tacoma Stars Reserves undefeated, further cementing their status as early contenders in the WISL season.

Snohomish Sky 8, Vancouver Lightning 5

The Snohomish Sky opened their WISL season in style, defeating the Vancouver Lightning 8–5 on Saturday night at Clark County Indoor Sports Center. In a fast-paced, back-and-forth matchup, the Sky pulled away late behind a standout performance from forward Gustavo Ferrari.

Ferrari earned First Star of the Game honors with a four-goal effort, providing the offensive spark Snohomish needed to secure the win. 

For Vancouver, Carlos Bravo claimed the Second Star after scoring once and providing a strong two-way presence that kept his team competitive through the middle stages of the match.

Liam Theeke rounded out the three stars, earning Third Star honors with 2 goals and 1 assist for Snohomish. His combination play with Ferrari proved crucial as the Sky built momentum in the second half.

The victory gives Snohomish a strong start to their campaign, while Vancouver will look to regroup as they continue their early-season schedule.
