Sneak Peak: WISL Teams Up with PenMet Parks for Future Expansion
The Western Indoor Soccer League (WISL) is proud to announce a major leap forward for the league, its players, and fans across the region: the construction of a brand-new indoor soccer facility (click link for tour) in Gig Harbor, WA, offers an exciting expansion market opportunity.
This new venue isn’t just another field—it’s a signal of growth for the WISL and expansion in a one of Washington's best small communities. And at the heart of that growth in expansion are two of WISL’s most recognizable club owners: Ryan Perkins of FC Oly and Derek Johnson of South Sound FC. The duo recently toured the site in discussions of the launch of brand-new men’s and women’s WISL teams that will call this facility home. Their involvement marks the beginning of a powerful expansion into the Gig Harbor and South Sound soccer communities.
But there’s even more meaning stitched into the turf.
One of the main fields at the complex will be named in honor of a WISL veteran and leader whose legacy has helped build the league from the ground up. This tribute is a nod to the league’s roots, even as it grows into its future.

To commemorate the naming of the field and it's opening, PenMet Parks will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 31st, unveiling the facility and honoring the individual for whom the field will be named. After this event fans can expect official launch of the new WISL expansion teams, bringing the energy of competitive indoor soccer to a new home base.
“This is what community soccer should look like—built by local leaders, for the benefit of players, fans, and future generations,” said WISL Commissioner John Crouch. “We’re thrilled to see Ryan and Derek at the helm of this new chapter for the WISL and in the Gig Harbor Community. We know that the combination of these two powerful forces in local soccer and business will bring the ABSOLUTE best to Gig Harbor.
We also believe Gig Harbor will readily invite the WISL competition and this new venue with the community will make an amazing gameday atmosphere
We have been working with Penmet toward this goal for many years now and have enjoyed the process and opportunity along the way and are certainly very excited!”
The future of indoor soccer in Washington has never looked brighter in Washington—and it's only just getting started.
